TODAY, SEPTEMBER 11: A DAY TO REMEMBER, A DAY TO SERVE At 8:46 a.m. Eastern Time on this day, 13 years ago, our world was changed forever. Suddenly, within an instant, the moment the first plane hit one of the Twin Towers at the World Trade Center marked the horrific beginning of the most deadly acts of terrorism ever to strike on American soil. As unimaginably devastating as the events of September 11, 2001 were, that day will also be forever remembered for the ways in which freedom-loving people from across the globe came together in unity and with a resolute spirit never to let the forces of evil prevail. And so today, we remember all those who lost their lives on that fateful date in history, we honor all those who gave selflessly in response to the tragedy , and we pay tribute to them all by dedicating both today and subsequent days toward serving our communities by making the kind of difference that only we ourselves can do. Now, through our actions, we create a new history as we build upon the past to secure a greater future in which the bonds of brotherhood and sisterhood stay strong and unbreakable. Today, hundreds of thousands of people will collectively give millions of hours of volunteer time to make their communities better. As part of this effort, this Saturday, local members of the Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter-day Saints will be joining alongside friends from other local faith communities to follow suit. Leo, Nick, Steven, and I invite you to join us. (Stay tuned to this page for a subsequent post containing further details.) For those across the United States who want to get involved, please visit the website below to see how YOU can serve your community right away and with immediate visible impact. As we each do our part, we will continue to show the world that our spirit of solidarity remains alive and well, NEVER to be extinguished! serve.gov/?q=site-page/september-11th-national-day-service-and-remembrance
