TODAY: Searching for Saris at the London Palestine Film Festival: Sunday, December 7th, 5:15 pm University College London, Pearson Building Room G22, WC1E 6BT (free entry) Saris is a Palestinian village in the Jerusalem area that was depopulated and destroyed in 1948. Today the Israeli town of Shoresh sits on the lands of Saris and overlooks some of its ruins. Searching for Saris conveys the voices and memories of refugees from Saris (young and old) now living in Qalandia Refugee Camp, together with stories of other families now confronting dispossession in present-day Jerusalem. Jinan Coulter’s doc features moving scenes in which refugees from Saris revisit the remains of their village. By tracing such continuities and returns, Searching for Saris discloses an on-going process of dispossession and testifies to the persistent struggle to return home. See programme below for details.
