TODAY WORK DISPUTES ARE NOW BECOMING A COMMON PLACE IN MOST ORGANIZATIONS. THIS HAS LED TO THE COLLAPSE OF MOST. Trust is always the defining principle of a great work place created through management credibility and respect with employees and to the extent to which they expect to be treated fairly. Majority of Sierra Leoneans want their workplace to be conducive and getting along with others and to ensure that work is productive and enjoyable. They yawn for that sense of unity and belonging to a peaceful and workable environment. However, workers with competitive attitude make this difficult to achieve by creating rifts in the workplace. Why are some workplaces more of a desirable place to be?” The truth of the matter is, there is no one single ‘secret’ to creating a peaceful and stable workable place. The only best ways is to foster good relations within the workplace, encourage dialogue and effective communication. This should not just be amongst colleagues but between staff and management. However, it is a good idea for businesses to have policies in place that outline the number of written and verbal warnings that will be issued to an employee before they are dismissed. It is also a good idea to communicate these policies to all employees so that they understand the process and are aware of their rights and responsibilities. An employee can also be dismissed for breaking company rules or policies – but only if the rules have been made clear and the employer is confident the employee was made aware of and understood the rules in the first place. Work can become unbearable if employers are only interested in themselves without giving any regard to the needs of their staff. It is perfectly acceptable to expect workers to give 100% when they are at work, but it’s also important to recognize that workers have a life outside of the workplace. Creating a family friendly environment is a positive step towards a peaceful and stable work place. No matter how much a person enjoys his current role, most career minded people will ultimately hope that the job they are doing now will be a stepping stone towards the next phase of their career. In order to effectively retain valued members of staff, it is therefore important that the employer provide them with the right platform in order to develop. There is always that sense of urgency to secure peaceful and stable work place for every employee. The environment in which an individual works is crucial to the overall performance of the workers in such organization. It can go along in determining workers productivity at the end. It is such that where working environment is favorable workers naturally work with less hassle of what become of theirs. Today Work disputes are now becoming a common place in most organizations. This has led to the collapse of viable organizations. Securing a peaceful work environment is not one of those easiest things to do, but with effective industrial relations, there is the possibility of attaining it.
