The triumph tasted even greater for the British entrepreneur, fresh European Champion and now National too, given that this happened just a few yards away from the headquarters of the company that made it’s famous cats worldwide, Cougar. 1982 - Bob Nordskog wins the San Francisco-Oakland race for the Championship MBRA, his eighteenth victory of his career, the fourth of the season,in the elegant 38 Scarab powered V8 Nordskog turbo, Powerboat Magazine Special. Nordskog beat the sister hull Sea Sweep but with MerCruiser engines coupled to Arneson surface drive units. 1986 - Al Copeland won the first and only edition of the Apache Offshore Grand Prix, off Miami, his fifteenth career victory and fourth of the season, on his famous superboat 50 Cougar powered with four MerCruiser, Popeyes-diet Coke. By opting for the three years old cat Cougar aluminum, Copeland who had aboard the trusty Bill Sirois at the throttles, Stan Ware as a navigator and Luan Hunter as a passenger, was celebrating his third consecutive title in the class he invented, the Superboat, repeating the success of two and a half weeks ago. 1987 - Fabio Buzzi won the first edition of the Gran Premio Città di Sanremo, his first career victory as a entrant member of an offshore race, aboard his mono 44 FB Design powered with four turbo diesel Seatek, Luchaire not to be confused with the eponymous cat of 42,FB family that has always played in the season. And a historic victory because it marks the first success of a driver who is also a designer and manufacturer of the boat as that of the engines that power transmission, the Trimax surface drives.
