TODAYS ARTIST.. (PATRT 1) Dutch-Belgian Painter Jacques François Joseph Carabain (1834 - 1933) Biography: Jacques Francois Carabain was a painter of landscapes and architectural street scenes who was born at Amsterdam in 1834. Although he was born in Holland he later changed his nationality and became a Belgian citizen. He studied under Doyer and V. Bing at l’Academie d’Amersterdam and travelled widely throughout France, Italy and Germany before he finally settled in Belgium. The Museum of Y’Pres holds his painting entitled “The Grand Place of Brussels” and the Museum Rudolfinum in Prague holds the work “Sight of Poggiodomo”. Carabain is one of the most eminent painters of this subject during the 19th Century. He has left representations of a number of the principal cities and towns in Holland, Belgium and many of the centres and picturesque villages within the bounds of Europe. Carabain’s compositions are noted for their intensity of palette and excellent brushwork..
