TODAYS BREAK TIME ONE UP YOU 23 The prudent keep their knowledge to themselves, but a fool’s heart blurts out folly. Proverbs 12:23 We have all been in the presence of people who love to tell you how much they know. They enjoy revealing their great awareness of knowledge to anyone and everyone. They get trapped in the disease of one upping everyone. They feel the need to correct and challenge just to reveal their knowledge and make their point. They also talk so much that their ears are clogged to what others are saying. They have no sense of timing in their conscience and they just blurt out comments with no filter. They brag out of a heart filled with pride to draw attention to themselves. The instruction of this passage is to keep your mouth shut until your heart is in a place to share the knowledge you have been given. Sometimes it is of no benefit for others to receive our words because they simply are not ready to hear. Timing is crucial when we open our mouths. Others do not need to hear everything we know but learning to walk humbly with the knowledge we have been given is the mature character we need to walk in. The matter lies in the heart. Sharing knowledge is not the problem, but when the knowledge is shared to receive glory that is a problem. Learning to filter why we say what we say is maturity of the heart. The flesh likes attention and uses boastful words to be fed. The more the flesh is being fed the larger the ego grows and cries out for attention. Sharing our knowledge in the limits of its usefulness will keep ego under control. Sharing what we know when the timing is not about us but about the usefulness of the knowledge we will grow in character not in ego.
