TODAYS CARTOON BEAK is celebrating the holidays! Heres a weird cartoon. In the late 1950s, television stations started airing the original Fleischer Studio Popeye Cartoons and they were a big hit, however King Features, which owned the comic strip, did not get any money out of the deal, so they decided the create new Popeye cartoons. The result was the the most slapped together Popeye series in the history of the franchise, with new 220 shorts airing on television between 1960-1962. I dont really remember watching them (I would have been a toddler) but I knew who the Sea Hag was through these cartoons, and I knew Bluto was called Brutus at some point (Brutus was later retrofitted into the mythos as Blutos brother). The series was produced by Al Brodax, who would go on to create The Beatles eponymous television cartoon and YELLOW SUBMARINE(!) This cartoon is a representation of Als humble beginnings.
