TODAYS CARTOON BREAK is celebrating the holidays! Today is a good day to start off out yuletide toons, as tonight is the first night of Hanukkah. This cartoon includes a few stereotypes, including a Jewish immigrant toy doll, along with a Chinese doll, a blackface stereotype who says Mammy! in a reference to Al Jolson in the 1927 film THE JAZZ SINGER (which was apparently still a timely reference in 1932), and probably even more racial stereotypes that I missed on this viewing. Theres so much going on, most people miss the Mickey Mouse doll in Santas bag while Santa stands on the sleigh and sings. After the recent debacle NBC had with PETER PAN LIVE (where they discovered that modifying Indian stereotypes with historically accurate Indian words didnt change the fact that its still a bunch of white and African-American dancers prancing about dressed up like Indians) we here at the ol TCB hope you appreciate why our cartoons areuncensored, as they were originally presented: were not trying to pass this off as whole family entertainment.
