TODAYS KNS NEWS BULLITIEN Modi’s visit draws mixed response from valley’s political camp PDP pins hope, Congress terms visit political Modi must approve relief package if he wants to exhibit solidarity: NC Srinagar, Oct 22 (KNS): With Prime Minister Narendra Modi visiting Kashmir on Diwali and spend time with flood-hit people, mixed responses from valley’s political camp are coming over the visit. Opposition Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti remarked that all eyes are set on the state government over its measures so as to seek maximum benefit out of PM’s visit for the flood hit Kashmir. Mehbooba told KNS that this also needs to be seen that how the business community that suffered massive losses due to floods, would motivate the prime minister for timely intervention into the relief and rehabilitation measures. “The visit of the Prime Minister must not be seen with the political prism. The state government failed on every level vis-à-vis post flood relief and rehabilitation measures and all eyes are now on GoI for the resolution of the issues,” she said. Taking a dig at the coalition government, PDP president accused that both Congress and NC were involved in the plunder of the relief material with no action on ground being for the proper distribution of the relief material among the flood sufferers of JK. She claimed that the government has lost credibility among people at large in JK and that the procedure adopted by the state government in its post flood measures was ‘worrisome’ and ‘disappointing’. Mehbooba maintained that the business community here including the agriculturalists, horticulturalists and various other sectors suffered huge losses and need of the hour is their duly compensation at an earliest. The state Congress chief Saif-ud-din Soz while reacting to Modi’s visit to Kashmir said that same is politically motivated with Modi arriving in valley to serve the political ends. “If Modi is really serious over mitigating the sufferings of the flood victims then he must approve at an earliest the relief memorandum submitted by the state government to the GoI,” Soz told KNS. Another Congress leader Taj Mohi-ud-din while reacting to Modi’s visit to Kashmir stressed that same must not be given the political color as priority must be given to the relief and rehabilitation measures. National Conference general secretary and Minister for Rural Development Ali Mohamamd Sagar said the state government’s priority is providing relief to flood vicitms. “If Modi wants to express solidarity with the flood hit people of Kashmir then he must, sans any delay, approve the package submitted by the state government to GOI so that Kashmir could be rebuilt again,” Sagar told KNS. Congress contradicts CM, says BJP’s victory in Maharashtra, Haryana won’t affect JK polls Srinagar, Oct 22 (KNS): State Congress Wednesday contradicted Chief Minister Omar Abdullah over his remarks on BJP’s triumph in Haryana and Maharashtra, saying same in no way could affect poll results in Jammu and Kashmir. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had said that BJP’s win in Haryana and Maharashtra would have some effect on the assembly elections in the state, but maintained that the influence would not be as much as previously expected. The state Congress chief Saif-ud-din Soz while reacting to the remarks of the chief minister asserted that the poll results in Haryana and Maharashtra would never affect poll results in Jammu and Kashmir and that Congress’s popularity in the Himalayan region would not be hurt by the BJP. Talking to KNS Soz maintained that Congress is the strong party and its roots in JK have been strengthened. He claimed that Congress will emerge as a single largest party in Jammu and Kashmir will form the next government. Interestingly, chief minister while talking to reporters at Zevan on Tuesday while reacting to triumph of BJP in Maharashtra and Haryana in Assembly polls, said though BJP did well in the elections in the two states, the results were not upto their expectations. “They (BJP) have done well, but not nearly as well as they had expected. If you compare BJP’s Parliament results in Haryana and BJP-Shiv Sena results in Parliament (polls) till now, they haven’t translated Parliament results into Assembly results in those states,” Omar had said, adding that BJP’s win in Haryana and Maharashtra would have some effect on the assembly elections in the state, but maintained that the influence would not be as much as previously expected. (KNS) Shifting of lower court affects lawyers’ work Srinagar, Oct 22 (KNS): The temporary make shift of Srinagar’s lower court to other areas is affecting commoners to knock the doors of law and justice with the lawyers maintaining that their work too got hampered due to shifting from Srinagar’s central place. Also, the vendors and other shopkeepers also stated that the business they used to get due to the rush of people at the court road of Srinagar is down with the huge margin. They maintained that after floods as the authorities decided to shift the lower court from Lal Chowk to Tatoo ground area. “We were doing a god business around the area as this street is known as court road. Our business is related to the functioning of the court. Floods didn’t hamper our business as much as the shifting of court did,” said one of the shopkeepers of the area. Meanwhile, lawyers also stressed that the number of their clients has been descended to large extent as the commoners usually feel reluctant in approaching the make shift office. Lawyers Club Kashmir led by Advocate Babur Qadri said the shifting of the court would not only affect the commoners and people who seek justice but will also pinch the functioning of the Bar Association of Kashmir. “Bar is the voice of the people. Its office at Srinagar’s lower court merited greater significance as same was located at the Historic Lal Chowk. Khan maintained that during the past 50 days, people suffered huge loses, with thousands turning homeless but no one from GOI tried to soothe the blighted situation of Jammu and Kashmir. The KEA, an amalgam of various business houses, questioned why Modi didn’t visit valley on Eid as the trail of devastation was visible all over in the troubled land of Kashmir at that time aswell. Rulers in New Delhi busy in advancing their own vested political interests: Mirwaiz Distributes relief among flood victims in Pampore Srinagar, Oct 22 (KNS): Terming the ‘callous and delaying tactics’ of the State Government and Government of India in addressing the enormous problems faced by the flood hit people of Kashmir and their rehabilitation as ‘crude politicization’ of a human tragedy and miseries of the people, Hurriyat Conference (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq today alleged that instead of taking any substantial steps to address the issue of flood victims, the rulers in New Delhi were busy in advancing their own vested political interests. Commenting on the proposed visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Kashmir, Mirwaiz in a statement said, “Theatrics of false mourning and tears were a hallow show of sympathy over the hardships faced by the flood hit Kashmiris.” Stating that people were immensely suffering due to ravaging floods since past two months, they were rendered homeless, and had nothing to left to fend their families, “GoI took hardly any steps to provide effective relief and rehabilitation to flood victims while on the other hand it is not allowing any aid by international community or any aid organization to help rebuild and provide succor to flood affected Kashmiris.” Mirwaiz said that the way national media was busy in blowing Modi’s Kashmir visit on Diwali out of proportions clearly indicate that the visit is more a publicity stunt than the intent of real help to flood hit Kashmiries and amounts to building castles of electoral politics over the ruins and rubble of Kashmir. The Hurriyat (M) chairman said that instead of adopting such tactics it would be better for the leadership of India to accept that Kashmir dispute was a reality which needs to be resolved according to the wishes and aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. “It was also a stark reality that even though the flood has damaged Kashmir but it has not dampened their resolve to fight for their right to self determination,” he said. Expressing solidarity and sympathy with the affected families, Mirwaiz regretted the absence of government in these areas to provide relief and rehabilitation to people. He stated that lakhs of people have been left on the mercy of Allah and government was just doing cheap politics over the tragedies of people for their ulterior political motives. Indian prime ministers Kashmir visit act of politicizing human tragedy. Kashmiris will observe complete shutdown against this visit. Bijebihara massacre reminds us the brutal face of state terrorism,” Malik said while addressing a gathering at Khankah I Charar I Shareef today. “Today we remember a leader, a saint, a religious poet, a completely devoted personality who taught us the ways of life and hereafter. Today we are paying tributes to a great soul who through his poetry and teachings elaborated on us the meaning of oneness of Allah, the necessity and importance of following the footsteps of the last messenger of Islam prophet Muhammad (SAW) in letter and spirit and also taught us the passion of working for the welfare and prosperity of human beings,” he said. “Sheikh-ul- Aalam was a complete leader who had unshakable faith in Allah, unparallel love of Allah’s messenger (PBUH). There were times when we Kashmiri’s used to live a simple life. We followed our elders in letter and spirit but alas! All this has changed now. We for the lust of wealth and power have shunned the way of these pious people. Because of this we are suffering, our freedom has been snatched and we are shattered in every walk of life.” The JKLF chairman said “We showed dishonesty with our elders like sheikh-ul-Aalam and Allah punished us through devastation of flood. Our lives today are shattered and if we want to change this sad situation we all will have to repent for our sins and crimes and tread the path of spirituality as shown by these great holy men. The freedom of Kashmiri’s has been snatched by the tyrants. We are being subjected to worst kind of oppression but the oppressors must remember that this gallantry nation will never shun its way of struggle and surely will succeed and get freedom soon.” Calling for a complete shutdown on PM Nerandera Modi’s Kashmir visit on Diwali Malik said that Kashmiri Muslims have always respected the religious sentiments of every sect living in Jammu Kashmir. “It is our religious and moral duty to do so but it is also a fact that today India is governed by Hindu extremists. These people have a clear anti Muslim and anti Kashmiri agenda. Such is the limit of their hypocritical behavior and policy based on hatred that Indian prime minister is even politicizing flood devastation and miseries being faced by the people of Kashmir,” he said. Malik said that the announcement of PM to celebrate Dewali in Kashmir is ironical. “Doesn’t Modi Jee know that Kashmir being a Muslim majority area recently celebrated the festival of Eid ul Zuha? Who is Modi Jee trying to befool. Everyone knows that he is coming to celebrate Dewali with his army and forces and is trying to play politics on a human tragedy,” he said.
