TODAYS THOUGHT: Thanksgiving - Being Thankful – 29Nov2013 The very first national day of Thanksgiving was held in 1789, when President George Washington proclaimed Thursday, November 26 to be a day of public thanksgiving and prayer, to especially give thanks for the opportunity to form a new nation and the establishment of a new constitution. Well, another Thanksgiving Holiday is come and gone, and I have much to be thankful for. My life began very humble as I wandered the streets as a toddler with my mother and two younger sisters looking for sustenance and a place to rest the night. But we never felt disappointed by God. On the contrary we were grateful to God for every assistance. For you see, God was with the people that assisted us. In turn we invested what little we were given by serving those that assisted us. And, we went to church and worshiped and thanked God for our modest blessings. In turn as my parents got better and better opportunities we had a modest abode by the time I was 8 years old. And we continued investing our blessings by attending church and school. The end result is that my sisters and I got excellent university educations and careers and we continue to thank and praise God for our many blessings, marriage, children and grandchildren. At every step we invested our blessings by giving more than we received by our service and labor as we learned from our parents, and we never felt disappointed by God. Now, at our Thanksgiving table there are many empty places which we remember and revere. Many are the pastors, people, teachers and professors that assisted us along the way of life to get to where we are today, and we were never disappointed by God.
