TODAYS TOPIC: What do you think of implementing a balanced (year-round) calendar at all of the schools in the Danville School District? The Danville District 118 Balanced Calendar Committee will meet Tuesday to report on the pros and cons of implementing a balanced calendar. Right now, Northeast is the only school in the district to follow a balanced calendar schedule, which includes three-week fall and spring breaks and a shortened summer break of eight weeks. The district’s other seven elementary schools, two middle schools and Danville High School all follow a traditional calendar featuring a long summer vacation of 12 weeks. All students in the district attend the same number of school days, which is 180 instructional days. So would students/ parents prefer more breaks in the school year and shorter summers OR stick with a regular calendar with a longer summer? Read the full story and post your opinions below and we might print it in the opinion section of the Commercial-News this week.
