TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL FOCUS John 1:14-18 THE WORD And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us,(and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. By the nature and design of God’s Order there can be discovered in almost all spiritual realities a corresponding correlation to the physical realm. Within the redemptive experience comes a spiritual recapitulation of the physical Creation. God speaks in Creation and the desolate earth receives light through the Spirit and the Word. As the Spirit of God opens the desolate heart of a person, God’s Word (Christ) through that same Spirit brings light to the receptive and responsive sinner’s heart. God continues in Genesis to call the earth to fruition; the sinner who accepts gladly the Word and Light becomes fruitful as a new creation in Christ. The Word is first and foremost a Person, Jesus Christ, for He is God’s ultimate Revelation. Always throughout all Scripture the Written Word points as a witness to the Living Word, the Incarnate God Who came to redeem His creatures, sinful human beings. The story has been told of “Big Jim”, a tough, rebellious roughneck who used profanity, drank often and intimidated his peers. He captured the label, “the meanest, roughest man in the country”. He was a hopeless case. The story might have ended there, except for a devoted pastor who would not cease to pray for Big Jim and never gave up trying to witness to him. Consequently, following years of resistance, Big Jim found himself in a revival service where he fell under deep conviction. He cried like a baby as he came forward during the invitation and accepted Christ. Big Jim became one of the hardest working Christian witnesses and served untiringly in his church. Changed lives like Big Jim testify to the Power of the New Creation in Christ and defy the unbelieving world to account for such change in a natural and ordinary way. Only God has the Power and authority to change a person to that degree! Pray today that God’s creative Power may continue to change us into the image of His Dear Son so that others may marvel at God’s Work and come to Him.
