TOMB OF ANHERKHA (Deir el-Medina) The Tomb of Anherkha is one of the few open to the public and it is the TT359 of the Necropolis of Deir el-Medina. Nothing remains of the superstructure and, therefore, you enter directly in the underground apartment. Anherkha or Inherkau was Leader of the Two Lands in the Place of Truth during the XX Dynasty under the reigns of Ramses III and Ramses IV. His wife was Wabet, The Pure. She had the title of Mistress of the House and she held a function in the Temple of Amon at Karnak. The remains of her sarcophagus were not found in this tomb but instead in the TT360 that belonged to her ancestor named Huy. The father of Anherkha was Hay and two of his sons were Har-min and Kenna. The funerary apartment walls were covered in plastered and decorated mud-brick. Among the scenes painted on the walls of the funerary apartment we can see: - Anherkha, accompanied by Toth holding the tablet of the scribe in one hand and the ankh in the other, appears to Osiris before whom there is a small table with offers. - Anherkha with his wife Wabet listening to the song of a harpist who, as opposed to the use of the time, is not blind. On the wall we can read the text of the song to the joy of life in the earthly world. - Anherkha and Wabet that, with their children, receive from a priest, called Ken, a box for ushabti decorated with the titles of Anherkha and a small statue of Osiris. The second man is holding a small jug. - Anherkha depicted with his head shaved and dressed in a panther skin while offering some ducks to Osiris. - Anherkha, on his knees, paying homage to the rising sun. - Anherkha honors Ptah standing on the symbol of the Maat. - Mouth Opening Ceremony officiated by a priest wearing the mask of the Hawk. - Anherkha holds the rudder of the boat sailing on the underground Nile to the West, the kingdom of the dead, accompanied by Isis, Toth, Kheperi and Hu. The arched ceiling is decorated with rectangular panels with motifs imitating of carpets. Apparently Anherkha had built this tomb for his family while using another for himself, the TT299.
