TOMORROW ON HYBRID JAZZ JOEY SOMMERVILLE! Joining Trish Hennessey is writer, producer and trumpeteer Joey Sommerville. Joey’s musical journey started at his Baptist church as a teenager and he would judge his caliber of playing by how many people in the congregation ‘got happy’. Joey said, “If you aren’t touching the listener’s soul, then you aren’t really playing music. Soul communication is the key.” He has performed with a wide range of artists including the rock group Phish. Joey was a featured instrumental soloist on the Cirque de Soleil’s Grammy-nominated and Juno Award winning album, “Alegria”. In 2001 scored a Gavin Top 20 Contemporary Jazz hit as writer/producer with Bob Baldwin’s single “Business Call”. 2006 Joey was a feature soloist on Hidden Beach Recording’s “Unwrapped Volume 4”. Produced Rhonda Smith’s “RS2” which features Prince, Sheila E and Fred Hammond. In 2007 Joey started The Smooth Jazz After Dark Series at Sambuca Jazz Café in Atlanta. He performed with special guests; Wayman Tisdale, Marion Meadows, Paul Taylor, Jeff Jorber, Everette Harp, Paul Brown, Chuck Loeb, Jeff Kashiwa, Steve Cole, Peabo Bryson, Ronnie Laws, Jeff Golub, Chieli Minucci, Ann Nesby, Jackiem Joyner, Bob Baldwin and Eric Darius. ‘Overnight Sensation’ is the latest project for Joey, can’t wait to hear some of the music!
