TONIGHT 12/9 and WEDNESDAY 12/10 - TopicsExpress

TONIGHT 12/9 and WEDNESDAY 12/10 Woodrow Wilson High School will present the Christmas classic, The Nutcracker at 7 pm on Tuesday, December 9 and Wednesday, December 10 in the Broadway style auditorium of the historic school. Admission is $5 at the door. The show is directed by Woodrow Dance Theater head Lisa King. Mount Auburn Elementary students, led by director Juilana Williams, will also perform, adding their interpretation of The Night Before Christmas. As far as Ms. King knows, Woodrow is the only school in North Texas and maybe the state, to produce the show. Juliana and I are the only ones crazy enough to do this three weeks after drill team ended football season, she said. Ms. Williams, who is part of the new STEAM program at Mount Auburn Elementary, was brought in by Woodrow feeder patter director Tracie Fraley. Williams is a graduate of Booker T. Washington Arts Magnet, where Fraley was once principal. She came from Rosemont Elementary in Oak Cliff and graduated from TCU, as did new choir director and Woodrow alumna Katie Cunningham Anderson. STEAM incorporates Art into Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. Woodrow has the only PTLW (Project Lead the Way) STEM academy in Dallas and the largest engineering program in Texas which is not housed in a magnet school. Fraley plans to ensure that rising students are prepared for the rigor of STEM at Woodrow and before at J. L. Long Middle School, designated a PTLW Gateway School. But engineering not the only thing which is largest at Woodrow, also famous for nearly 60 years of Broadway musical productions. The dance program, with a state-of-the-art facility in the new Science and Arts wing, is the largest in Dallas. Its larger than Booker T. Washington, which may be why so many are defecting to Woodrow. And its one reason Woodrow is able to mount such a production.
