TONIGHT! HOODS: A NEW OPERA BY CAROLYN CHEN Saturday, May 17th, 2014 7:00 pm CPMC Experimental Theater Free Hoods is an evening-length chamber opera based on Euripides’ Hekabe and Red Riding Hood, parallel stories of women in extremis. Setting myth and fairytale in the context of late empire and perpetual war, the opera explores themes of violence, gender, and metamorphosis. Three singers each play multiple roles from two stories of women and beasts transforming into one another. Helicopter and animal recordings harmonize with live chamber music.
