TONY ABBOTT AND THE LIBERAL NATIONAL PARTY CUT FUNDING OF MORE $2.5 MILLION TO 7 NORTH COAST COUNCILS FOR 12 PROJECTS. Locals will be denied projects like the Bay Street redevelopment in Tweed Heads and a Cycle Track in Byron Bay because Tony Abbott and the Liberal National Party have cut the funding. Under the previous Federal Labor Government, Tweed Shire Council was allocated $613,184 for the Bay Street redevelopment and the Byron Shire Council was allocated $149,681 in funding toward the cost of the Cycle Track. Now Tony Abbott and Liberal National Party have decided to cancel all projects under Round 5 of the Regional Development Australia Fund unless they are already under way. This decision is unfair for the people on the North Coast. Across our region we have funding cuts of more $2.5 million to 7 local Councils for 12 projects. This is all we ever see from the National Party on the North Coast – cuts to vital funding and services.
