TOOLE OUT OF TOUCH ON JOB LOSSES SAYS COLEMAN 26 NOVEMBER 2014 Country Labor candidate for Bathurst Cass Coleman has expressed amazement at the lack of concern shown by Member for Bathurst Paul Toole for mine and power workers in the Lithgow area who are being thrown on the employment scrap heap on a weekly basis. “Last week’s decision by Energy Australia to close and decommission Wallerawang Power Station means another 120 local families face a bleak Christmas” said Cass Coleman. “The Lithgow area has lost about 500 direct jobs in the last year,” continued Mrs Coleman, “and when your add the flow-on effect to the Lithgow community, the figure would be closer to 700.” “This is starting to have a major impact on our local economy, with many small businesses facing a grim future,” said Cass Coleman. In an interview on local ABC radio last week Mr Toole shrugged off the latest jobs losses, claiming that the Liberal/National Party government has invested heavily in the Lithgow area to diversify the economy to create jobs. “Apart from 55 jobs at the State Debt Recovery Office that have already been filled, it is hard to see what jobs Mr Toole is talking about” said Cass Coleman. “The State Debt Recovery Office and the Police Assistance Line were established by former Country Labor member for Bathurst and the Labor government of the day said Cass Coleman. “But since then, we’ve seen very little innovation or new enterprise to support Lithgow’s situation from Mr Toole’s government.” “Paul Tooles lack of concern for our community members who have being thrown out of work is matched only by the Lithgow Mayor and the Nationals-dominated Council. None of these representatives are prepared to vigorously take up the issue to the state member and his government. Deputations to the Premier and other relevant Ministers seeking answers to our jobs crisis should have been arranged weeks ago,” said Cass Coleman.
