Speaker of Goa Legislative Assembly Rajendra Arlekar has embarked on a plan to make the Goa Legislative Assembly to provide a fully online system to its MLAs and staff. “More than 50 percent of the MLA questions are now being submitted to the Assembly online, and that percentage is rising every day. The aim is to achieve 100 percent paperless operation as soon as possible,” said Mr. Arlekar on Saturday briefing the presspersons ahead of the monsoon session of the State Assembly which is scheduled to begin on July 22. 2. While most of the world is trying to diminish child labour, Bolivia has become the first nation to legalise it from age 10. Congress approved the legislation early this month, and Vice-President Alvaro Garcia signed it into law on Thursday in the absence of President Evo Morales, who was travelling. The bill’s sponsors say lowering the minimum work age from 14 simply acknowledges a reality: Many poor families in Bolivia have no other choice than for their kids to work. The bill offers working children safeguards, they say. 3. Nalco has been awarded the gold award in Premier Trading House category in the first Eastern Region Export Excellence Award 2012-13 by the Federation of Indian Export Organizations. Its exports stood at Rs. 3,380.93 crore. Tata Steel got the silver award in the category with its Rs. 1,997.90-crore exports earnings. 4. Manila-based Asian Development Bank (ADB) has upgraded India’s economic growth forecast to 6.3 per cent in 2015-16 on hopes of speedy reform process. The multilateral funding agency, however, has retained forecast of 5.5 per cent growth for this year. 5. Finland-based smartphone company, Jolla, has signed an agreement with Snapdeal, Indias largest e-commerce marketplace, to launch its handsets in the country. Jolla runs on independent operating system Sailfish. 6. Minerals Council of Australia (MCA), the apex body of miners in that country, is ready to offer Indian companies help in the area of sustainable mining. Melanie Stutsel, Director, Health Safety, Envionment and Community Policy, MCA, said that starting a relationship with the local community and developing deep engagements with them were key factors in ensuring a conflict-free operation for mining companies. 7. Iran and six world powers failed on Saturday to meet their target date for cutting a nuclear deal but agreed to extend the talks until Nov. 24 in a bid to overcome stubborn differences over the size and capacity of activities by Tehran that could be used to make nuclear arms. 8. The shooting down of Malaysian Airlines Flight MH-17 by pro-Russian separatists in Ukraine threatened to derail the meeting of trade ministers of the G-20 Group of advanced and emerging economies in Sydney today. The downing of the airliner killed 298 people, including 28 Australians – one of the largest civilian disasters involving Australians in recent times.
