TOP OFFICIALS INVOLVED IN ZIMBABWE POACHING? An article from All Africa just a few hours ago says that conservation groups in the country have called upon the government to investigate the possible links of politicians and influential businessmen to an international ivory smuggling ring operating in Zimbabwe. It seems a number of mining permits have been granted to powerful military officers and political figures in the vicinity of Hwange national park, where more than a hundred elephants (The number keeps rising!) have been recently killed by cyanide-armed poachers. Cyanide-based chemicals are used in mining operations and would be easily available for poisoning elephants. This article echoes a theme from other parts of Africa such as Kenya and Tanzania alleging the participation of rich businessmen and officials in the poaching networks. Forever Elephants decries this corruption, and is determined to take measures to protect our teams from the threat it poses to our future operations in Africa. Individuals everywhere can help us in this by going to the Forever Elephants Facebook page, giving it a "Like," and thus strengthening our social media capabilities. tinyurl/ofo3zy3 Steve McNallen, Director Forever Elephants
