TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING for DAMAGING WIND and HEAVY RAINFALL For people in the Herbert and Lower Burdekin, Central Coast and Whitsundays and parts of the Northern Tropical Coast and Tablelands, Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders and Central Highlands and Coalfields Forecast Districts. Issued at 8:56 pm Saturday, 1 February 2014. Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding over the next several hours in the Herbert and Lower Burdekin and parts of the Northern Tropical Coast and Tablelands, Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders and Central Coast and Whitsundays districts. Locations which may be affected include Proserpine, Bowen, Townsville, Hamilton Island, Ingham and Innisfail. Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding over the next several hours in parts of the Central Coast and Whitsundays and Central Highlands and Coalfields districts. Locations which may be affected include Mackay, Moranbah, Sarina, Nebo and Eungella. Severe thunderstorms are no longer occurring in the Capricornia district and the warning for this district is CANCELLED. 50mm of rain was recorded in an hour at Moranbah Airport. 30mm of rain was recorded in 10 minutes at Tully Alert. Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should: * Move your car under cover or away from trees. * Secure loose outdoor items. * Avoid driving, walking or riding through flood waters. * Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees. * Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm. * Beware of fallen trees and powerlines. * For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500. The next warning is due to be issued by 12:00 am Sunday.
