TOPIC: HOPE FOR THE PENITENT. TEXT: Isaiah 1:21-31. DATE: 3rd July, 2014. WORD FOR TODAY: Zion will be redeemed with justice, her pentinent ones witg righteousness. Vs. 27 CHANGE among Gods people should usually be for better. Here however, we see Judah backsliding from the faithful city to a harlot and from being full of Justice and righteousness to a place teeming with murderers, her glory (silver) turned to shame (dress) (Vs.22). Many can see a replica of the scenario in several aspect of our national and religious life. But we cannot keep it confined to the public sphere. Indeed such backsliding is a reality of individual lives as well, whereby we move from our once effective lives to compromise that makes us become the same as the ungodly people we should win. Take a hard and honest look at your life. Have you lost your first love? Are you still useful for the Lords purpose as a faithful witness? Are you in some kind of leadership position to influence things for good? Have you become a companion of thieves (Vs.23) instead? Is it not time to do something to avoid what could become the unhappy consequence? Into this hopeless situation we see Gods gracious intervention in Vs. 24-27. This is our only hope for restoration. Isaiah always brought hope beyond judgment for the pentinent ones (Vs. 27). Do you belong to that group of those who take Gods warning seriously and repent? The consequence of not repenting are grave (See Vs. 29-31). PRAYER: Lord, in your mercy please turn my shame into glory again.
