TOPIC: PEOPLE OF GOD: LET US ENJOY ALL WE CAN IN THIS LIFE - BUT LET US ALWAYS KEEP ALL OUR FOCUS ON WHERE WE ARE HEADING TO – HEAVEN AT LAST -THE SCRIPTURE- But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. For ourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. For when that shall say, peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child: and they shall not escape. But ye brethren, are not in darkness, that that day shall overtake you as a thief. Ye are all children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep, as do others: but let us watch and be sober. For they that sleep sleep in the night, and they that be drunken are drunken in the night. But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breast-plate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation. For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ, Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with Him. Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do…..1ST THESSALONIANS 5:1-11. -THE MESSAGE- The word of God describes the unbeliever as a child of disobedience and a child of wrath: hopeless and without God in this life and even hereafter. Every unbeliever is marked for eternal destruction. And the status of every unbeliever remains like this until he or she repents and receives Christ as Lord and Savior. Brethren, there is no hope to all that are not saved. And this is why unbelievers live this life knowing that it all begins and ends here – because they have no hope of eternal life. They live life in “totality” – to maximize everything here – to get the best that is in this life – to become the best that this life can offer. And they are always in some hurry about these pursuits. But we that are saved unto Christ Jesus have not so learned of Him – for we know that if in this life only we have hope as believers, then we are of all men and women most miserable. Brethren, if we have believed God and are walking in daily righteousness and purity - in fear and trembling – just for us to enjoy the things of this life and then perish into nothingness, then we are the worst species on planet earth. But why is the Lord speaking to us today about these very things? Why is the Spirit of grace bringing this type of message to us even when it appears that most of us already know much about this very thing? Brethren, this message could not have come at a better time. For we are witnesses to the growing tendency in those that are saved to strive daily to live even as those that have no hope. Many believing folks world-wide live in daily and hot pursuit of the vanities of this life; and some are even ready to give everything in order to enjoy these “dainties”, no matter how temporary! The word of God expressly holds that the glory of this life passeth away. That means that all that we see and touch in this life will one day perish with the using. For heaven and earth will certainly pass away. Brethren, all these beauties around us will one day come under the scrutiny of fervent heat and nothing shall be spared – absolutely nothing. And if we know these things, how ought we to live and conduct our affairs in this life? The key words are these: seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all that we see around us will be added unto us – with persecution – and then heaven at last. Brethren, the people of the world are all occupied with what to eat, what to drink, how to clothe themselves – indeed how to acquire the “very best” of this life. And they apply all their lives to these vain pursuits. Their key phrase is always; let us enjoy and die. But brethren, though we are in the world we are not of the world. Yes, indeed, we do also have need of the very good things of this life, and our heavenly Father knows that very well. But He insists that we must only seek Him and what pleases Him with all our lives – and as we do that He adds these good things unto us. We are saved that we would not continue to pursue the things of this life; for Our Daddy in heaven knows that when our focus is on the things of this life we are bound to lose focus of whom we really are, where we are coming from and where we are heading to. I therefore enjoin all that truly believe to live daily with this very thing at heart – that we are mere pilgrims in this life. Though we are in the world, yet were are not of the world. We are heavenly beings on a temporary mission on earth – that mission is to win as many souls as possible and bring them along as we go to meet with the Author and Finisher of our faith, even our Lord Jesus Christ. Let us meditate on these things and apply ourselves to wisdom.
