TOPIC: WHO IS JESUS TO YOU... 2 DATE: MARCH 20TH.2014 SCRIPTURE: MATTHEW 16:14 ‘But what about you? He asked. Who do you say I am? We learnt from yesterday that Jesus is very much concerned about our personal knowledge of him. Prior to Jesus asking the disciples that question, he had earlier asked them “who do people say I am”. To this question, the disciples were quick to answer. It is very easy for many Christians to name people and call them powerful men or women of God, but go quiet when asked about them. Christians today are quick to tag people as he has the fire of God in him, this man is very anointed, that woman is very powerful etc. All these are people’s relationship with Christ and not our personal self. We should not focus on other people’s relationship with Jesus rather our personal relationship. Jesus is not interested in the view of other rather our personal view. Where as there were three answers to the question ‘who do people say I am’? Only Peter was able to answer the very personal question ‘who do you say I am’? Why does our personal relationship or view of Jesus matter much to him? God does prefer sons and daughters. You become an adopted child of God when you accept Jesus as your Lord and Master. It takes your personal relationship with Jesus to make you a child of God. If Jesus were to be here in flesh and ask you the same question, what will your answer be? Can you like Peter see Jesus as the Christ, the Son of the Living God, the Anointed one, the Only Saviour, the Only Way or the Only Begotten Son of God? Peter’s confession was of his own persona faith, revealed to him by God through the Holy Spirit. We cannot acknowledge who Jesus really is with our flesh and blood or human wisdom. We need the help and revelation of the Holy Spirit. Have a personal relationship and revelation of who Jesus is to you for it matters much to him.
