There basically was 2 periods for SLAVE.....the 1st three albums contained extremely hard hitting, edgy & dark funk. The 2nd period is when vocalist Steve Arrington joined the band . Unlike a group like Kool & The Gang,Slave added a standout vocalist,while still retaining much of their edginess. Even in songs like Watching You & Touch of love......its right there under the surface. At least part of this, was the fact that Arrington was perhaps the most unconventional singer of all the funk bands to come out of the 70s.
