TORCHLIGHT UPDATE Moldovians (Human Nationality) Moldovia is the youngest of the Kingdoms of Jorda, which is credited by the stubborn nature of the people of this land. Long after a majority of Jorda had converted to the Lathril Faith, the Moldovians stubbornly clung to their tribal gods. Even after the Valasians had “tamed” the region, decimating towns and villages, the Moldovians carried on partisan actions. A good part of their stubbornness lies in the highly conservative outlooks of these people and their extremely loyal natures. When something works, a Moldovian is loathed to abandon it. Moldovians are not known for their inventiveness, their speed, or their skill. In fact, very few people know anything of the Moldovians. They are stoic and taciturn, slow to anger, patient and plodding. But if a problem arises, a Moldovian will not rest until the problem is solved. If a friend is in need, a Moldovian will give all that he or she has to aid the friend. And if trouble disturbs their people or their lands, the Moldovians unite as one to quell the difficulty. The Postulants deliberately targeted the Moldovians for conversion, believing that if such a stubborn people could be convinced, the rest of Jorda would be no real challenge. It has taken no less than two generations to convert barely over half the population of Moldovia to Postulantism, mainly by converting from the last holdouts of the Vardic faith. The Postualnt Leadership have pretty much decided that the remaining Moldovians are a lost cause and are now sending their missionaries elsewhere, relishing the chance to convert more reasonable men and women. Moldovians possess dark brown or black hair and brown, black or hazel eyes. Males are prone to going bald by their thirties, and those who do not go bald are gray haired by their mid-fourties. They possess blocky features and broad frames: most males are barrel-chested and women tend to possess more than ample hips. The usual Moldovian expression seems to be that of vague worry, as if trying to remember some important article or tool left at home while also focusing on the task at hand. They tend to have a rather pessimistic outlook on life, frown more often than smile, and speak as little as possible. They have an unparalleled work ethic, and most are extremely devout and honest to a fault. Men sport beards and mustachios, but prefer to keep their hair neatly trimmed. If they have a true fault, it is their love of comfort: to a Moldovian, nothing is better after a long days work than a warm fire, a good drink, and a large meal. They are extremely devoted to family, and it is not uncommon for a majority of Moldovians living in a village, town or hamlet to be directly related by blood, and more than common to have up to three generations living under one roof. It is rare to find an adventuring Moldovian, and even such Moldovians rarely stand out or receive the acclaim of other nationalities. Despite this, their companions would usually give their lives for their Moldovian comrade, who is unfailingly kind and supportive, undeniably valiant, and unquestionably loyal. Moldovians are possessed of a quiet wisdom which make them particularly well suited to missionary work, and are often called into clerical service. Moldovian Nationality Traits +2 Wis, -1 Int: Modovians are infamous for their stubborn and willful natures, but as a people are not very imaginative or innovative. Bonus Skills: Moldovian characters receive 4 bonus skill points at 1st-level, which may be spent on any of the following skills: animal care [any], concentrate, craft [any except primitive wepaonsmithing], diehard, healing, language [Beldi, Falgrish, Metrovian, Valasian], marathon, profession [any], or teamster. The selected skills are treated as class skills regardless of class. Bonus Trait: Hardhead – while not physically any tougher than a normal human, Moldovians just dont know when to quit. Automatic Language: Moldovian Literacy: Moldovians have the standard human regard for literacy. Unless required by class, a character will not possess literacy. Bonus Languages: Beldi, Falgrish, Metrovian or Valasian Religion: Almost half the population of Moldovia belongs to the Pontifical Rite of the Lathril faith. The other half belongs to the Postulant faith. Given the conservative nature of most Moldivans, a character might belong to the Varista faith, druidism, or even an older heathen religion. Also note that among Moldovians, it is considered EXTREMELY impolite to discuss faith and religion in public. File: TorchlightNationalities3_13_14.txt
