TPCO Advent Calendar Dec 17: Charlie Eustice The New Voice of F1 There were many moments in the 2014 F1 season that I could have picked for my favourite. The one I wanted to choose - the entire Bahrain GP, has already been picked by Mission Critical, so this is my back-up choice. As we know, V8s were swapped for Hybrid V6s for this season. The sound difference of the new V6s saw Formula 1 mocked by many for the muted engines and some important F1 personnel, including Vijay Mallaya, said that F1 had lost its voice. However, a new voice was heard far more prominently than before; perhaps the most important voice of all - the fans. Maybe it was because it was the opening round of the season, and maybe it was because I rather like Ricciardo, but the sheer euphoria of the crowd when Danny took provisional pole sticks in my mind as one of the most amazing things that happened all year. Hamilton got the pole of course, but for those 8 seconds when he stood at the top of the timing screens in Q3, Ricciardo was a god, and the Australian crowd reached fever pitch for their home hero.
