TPF Shares Highlights of 2014 As we enter 2015, The Poultry Federation (TPF) would to share our major accomplishments of the past year. Our association works diligently on behalf of our members and we realize that without your support, we could not have been so successful. Thank you for your support of The Poultry Federation of Arkansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma. Happy New Year to our members and industry friends!To view a video of TPF 2014 Highlights on YouTube, click here. • The Federation remains active in the Arkansas/Missouri/Oklahoma legislative sessions working on bills on behalf of its members. • Thirty-five new Allied companies (vendors/suppliers) joined The Poultry Federation as members. • Added new members to the Board of Directors: Russell Bragg, O.K. Foods, Inc.; Don Burrows, Pilgrim’s; Jason Godsey, Simmons Foods, Inc.; and Tim Scott, Clearview Enterprises. • Hosted the Chew on This/Drive to Feed the World Campaign by Nutra Blend and Elanco companies at the state capitols in Little Rock, AR, Oklahoma City, OK and Jefferson City, MO. • Provided training material and information to poultry growers and services techs for the Farm Utility Tax Exemption program. • TPF received LEED New Construction Certificate for its new building headquarters • Assisted on the ground in disaster relief efforts for the Mayflower and Vilonia, AR, tornado victims. • Provided protein for various community charity events. Continued partnership with Arkansas Food Bank with a donation of turkeys from Cargill, Inc. for the holiday season. • Celebrated the association’s 60th year anniversary during the Annual Poultry Festival and presented past Board chairmen with Honorary Lifetime Memberships. • Members and industry friends enjoyed the 55th Annual Poultry Festival held in Rogers, AR. With a sports theme as the backdrop, a record-breaking 38 barbecue teams entered the Barbecue Contest. Headliner for the event was country musician, Rodney Atkins. Concert tickets were sold out prior to the event. (A special Thank You is extended to our many festival volunteers and ticket sellers for their work in making this another successful event.) • Annual Events: Arkansas Nutrition Conference, Turkey Committee Meeting, Spring Symposium for Live Production, Processors Workshop, Food Safety Conference and the 55th Annual Poultry Festival, each recorded high attendance and increased sponsorships. • Processors Workshop hosted the Arkansas gubernatorial candidates in a forum during its educational session. • Dr. Michael Kidd, Center of Excellence for Poultry Science and Department of Poultry Science at the University of Arkansas, was named 2014 Industry Leader of the Year • Keith Childress, CEVA, was named 2014 Sales Representative of the Year • James Plyler was named Turkey Industry Leader of the Year by the Turkey Committee • The Poultry Improvement Committee continues to provide educational sessions and the quarterly meetings are growing in attendance. • Hosted the NPIP Salmonella Workshop in Fayetteville. • TPF launched its first High School Media Contest in the state of Arkansas, which produced several videos from high schools around the state, promoting and endorsing poultry as a sustainable protein. • Supported the Arkansas 4-H Junior Livestock Sale during the Arkansas State Fair. • Raised an all-time high of $100,000 at the Annual Scholarship Auction held during the Poultry Festival, shattering all previous records. • Continued partnership with the Arkansas Community Foundation and over $109,000 awarded to college students through TPF’s scholarship fund. • On a sad note, we said farewell to another great pioneer of our industry and a founding member of the Arkansas Poultry Federation, Mr. Jack England of England Farms.
