TRACKING TWO STORMS: One this weekend looking wet, another early - TopicsExpress

TRACKING TWO STORMS: One this weekend looking wet, another early next week with a snow chance. READ ALL below to get an idea of what were looking at in the next week. FRIDAY/SATURDAY: Ive mentioned this for several days, but now it is very likely that a coastal low will form and track through the Southeast. For us, this will mean moisture arriving late Friday lasting into midday Saturday. There is not much cold air in place with this system, so the most likely outcome here will be a chilly rain for us in the Triad. For a good snow chance youd like to see cold air ahead of time reinforced with high pressure in the northeast. Thats just not there this time around. Ive included some graphics below that show the orientation of the Jet Stream and the difference between the warmer side and the colder side. Right now, expect to see rain begin late Friday, lasting through midday. (The mountains are a different story) MONDAY: Early next week cold air will already be here, and strong upper-level energy will be dropping south for Canada. There is potential for at least a weak system to form in the Carolinas, and some potential for a stronger system to form as well. If precip develops, snow is a distinct possibility in the Piedmont. Possibilities right now range from nothing, to flurries, to our first sticking snow of the season. Youll need to keep checking back for updates on this. OVERALL: Looks like rain this weekend, maybe some flurries or more early next week. Any questions? Concerns? As always, feel free to ask. - TB
