TRAGIC DEATH OF A GREAT YOUNG LEADER FOLLOWED BY A THOUGHTFUL RESPONSE BY SOME WONDERFUL ALBANY FOLKS WHO HAD HOPED TO PARTY WITH BANKS & SHANE Would-be Banks & Shane concertgoers honoring band leader’s son after tragedy When a concert planned for this Friday by the popular Atlanta musical group Banks & Shane was canceled following the tragic death of the son of one of the band leaders, a beautiful thing began to happen. Many of the would-be concert-goers are refusing to accept refunds; instead, they are insisting that the money be donated to Theatre Albany in the memory Mack Burgess, son of Albany native and musician Banks Burgess. Mack Burgess, 25, also was the nephew of Albany residents Pam and Frank Middleton. He was killed Tuesday in a single-vehicle accident in Sandy Springs, Ga. He lived in Atlanta and worked as a Georgia Republican Party field staffer. Gov. Nathan Deal released a statement shortly after Macks accident, saying, Mack was an incredible young man, smart, hard-working, with a bright future ahead of him. David Campbell of Stewbos Enterprises and attorney Spencer Lee planned the concert and were to serve as hosts. “We are broken-hearted by Mack’s death,” Campbell said. “When we began getting the word out today about having to cancel the concert, many of the people who purchased tickets said that they wanted to honor Mack by donating the ticket money to Theatre Albany.” “We are very moved, but not surprised, by how Albany is responding to this terrible tragedy. That’s the way Albany always responds to adversity – as a family,” Lee said. For more information, contact Kevin Hogencamp at kevinhogencamp@gmail or (229) 921-3424.
