TRAINER TIP from Jamie Z: Americas Sitting Epidemic Sitting is the new smoking. Most of us sit all day at work, increasing our blood pressure, placing us at a greater risk for diabetes, depression, obesity, and some types of cancer. Unfortunately, regular exercise is not enough to counteract the dangers of all the sitting we do. So what is? NEAT! Nonexercise Activity Thermogenesis, AKA moving! We already know to take the stairs instead of the elevator, and not to choose the closest parking spot, but what else can we do? #move 1. Walk to your coworkers desk to speak with them, rather than sending an email. 2. Drink more water. Walk to a restroom that is further away than the restroom you usually use. 3. Stand to take a phone call. We burn twice as many calories standing than we do sitting! 4. Take a mini break every half hour: stand, stretch, walk. 5. Place your waste basket or filing cabinet across your office so you have to get up and walk. 6. Limit your tv time, then use it wisely... do a plank, wall sit, stationary lunges, jumping jacks.
