TRANSART Logo You are invited to the opening of Somebodys Calling My Name Free & Half Free This exhibit is a chronology of people of African descent in the Hudson River Valley of New York State from the earliest arrival in the 1600s to the first half of the 20th Century. October 4th Saturday 10am - 2 pm Matthewis Persen House 74 John Street Kingston, New York 12401 Music Presentation begins 10:30am (approx) Panel Discussion begins at noon (approx) A.J. Williams Meyers, Ph.D.; Professor, Black Studies SUNY/New Paltz Author of Numerous publications on African diasporic life in New York, including: On the Morning Tide: African American, History & Methodology in the Historical Ebb & Flow of Hudson River Societyand Destructive Impulses: An Examination of an American Secret in Race Relations - White Violence. Don Quinn Kelley, Ph.D.; Professor Emeritus, Medgar Evers College/CUNY Dr. Kelley is the historian for this exhibition. Throughout his academic career he has conducted interdisciplinary research and taught both United States and African American history. Baba Neil Clarke, Master Percussionist, Educator Percussion Master for over 40 Years including 22 years with Harry Belafonte and presently for NEA Jazz Master Randy Weston.
