TRANSGENDER EQUALITY ESPECIALLY IN CERTAIN WORKPLACES I’ve been a bit quiet lately as vie been busy communicating with the MPs involved with the ‘advancing Transgender equality’ plan. This work was started by Lynne Featherstone in 2010 and a number of us returned comments and input to this. The plan was issued in December 2011 https://gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/85498/transgender-action-plan.pdf. I asked Lynne at the time to meet her as I felt that although this was all commendable I was still not convinced that this helped much with certain work arena such as mine in Schools. This has been more than highlighted with the terrible happening surround Miss Lucy Meadows. In addition I feel that a number of the action deadlines have passed with very little update or progress. If anything support and healthcare have got worse. So I wrote to all the women with responsibility for this plan and action from it, namely Helen Grant, Maria Miller and Jo Swinson. I also included my own MP who I can report has replied, unlike the others since I sent the communication on 19th May. My MP has requested that we meet up to discuss this, so I expect I’ll have to pop up into London to see her. I am currently awaiting a date to do this. If anyone has any particular issue they would like me to include then I’ll try my best to include it, but my MP is generally quite good and will follow up on these other women’s inability to even acknowledge my letter! Here’s hoping I can get some way forward on the specific issues of Trans or any LGBT staff working in schools who do a great job, but run the risk of victimisation every day.
