TRANSMARA KILLINGS CONDEMN BY ISAIAH NAYIKA Gusii leaders have asked the government to hasten investigations into the ethnic clashes in Lolgorian, Transmara in Narok County that have led to loss of lives. Speaking during a funeral service at Nyandoche Ibere Village in Borabu Constituency, the leaders led by Nyamira County Governor John Nyagarama condemned the killings and called on the government to assure the Gusii Community living in Narok of their security. The leaders, who promised to visit the region in the course of this week to advocate for peaceful co-existence, urged the Gusii people living in Transmara not to flee the area as the government was putting in place measures to enhance security. Nyagarama said that leaders from the region are working on a program to ensure sustainable peacefully coexistence in the region. He called upon the Gusii and Kipsigis communities living along the Borabu-Sotik border to collaborate with security agents with a view to stamping out cattle rustling which is prevalent in the area. “We are working closely with the national government security agents to tame the vice that has for a long time affected our cross-border relationships with the Kipsigis Community,” he said. Area MP Ben Momanyi said measures have been put in place to tighten security while former Kitutu Masaba legislator Walter Nyambati urged Kenyans to live harmoniously with each other saying that it is the only way development can be enhanced. Nyaribari Chache legislator Chris Bichage said that the rights of Kenyans to live anywhere in the country should be respected, and condemned those issuing threats and demanding members of particular communities to leave the Rift Valley.
