TRANSPORTATION STRIKE BE DAMNED! October 14, brought the highest number of visitors since the strike started. The buses, which began operating in a sketchy manner on Friday night, continued to do so and more good news is in store for our visitors. The Berri-de-Montigny line to Expo and Longueuil opened. It’s the largest gateway to Expo. Visitors streamed in. In the first hour over 100,000 arrive. Then Expo received word that the transit unions were pulling off their subway workers again. Information boards and Public Address systems flashed the news, warning people who had left cars at the Longueuil parking to leave. Many are trapped and have to telephone home for transportation. Throughout the evening harried husbands and wives lined the expressway to pick up their kin at the fair. It’s well into Sunday morning before the chaos is sorted out. The Canada national railways put at the disposal of the visitors of the Expo a train which was the shuttle between Montréal-Nord and the central railway station and the Expo. Habitat 67 received its seven-millionth visitor. It was announced that Habitat would remain as a prestige private and business residence after Expo and the rent structure would not change. A redecorated and improved Hélène de Champlain restaurant would reopen its main dining room to the public at the beginning of December. Well-known comedian Danny Kaye came to visit the Expo in the company of his wife and daughter. The next day, day of the UNICEF, Mr Kaye was honored, Place des Nations, for his contribution to this Organizations campaigns.
