TRAPPED IN THE PAST So the Lord said to him, “Arise and go to the street called Straight, and inquire at the house of Judas for one called Saul of Tarsus, for behold, he is praying. 12 And in a vision he has seen a man named Ananias coming in and putting his hand on him, so that he might receive his sight.” 13 Then Ananias answered, “LORD, I HAVE HEARD FROM MANY ABOUT THIS MAN, how much harm he has done to Your saints in Jerusalem. (Acts 9:11-13) It is often very difficult to look beyond what we have heard about people and the perceptions we have formed as a result when we are dealing with them. Even when they have moved on, we find ourselves relating to them within the framework of their past. Saul had become notorious for his zealous role in persecuting the church. Even when he met the Lord, people still held him captive in his past and refused to trust or welcome him into the early church. Lets face it, if you met someone who youve always known as a dishonest person now serving in the ministry, you would still make a connection to the past. While one cannot easily forget a persons history, we must also have the capacity to forgive them, embrace their new reality and help them move forward in Gods will. Youre blessed indeed!
