TRASH TALK (Part 2) THEN I SAID... Then thats the issue... - TopicsExpress

TRASH TALK (Part 2) THEN I SAID... Then thats the issue... PERHAPS. So dont ask us single family home owners to jump into your asylum. Stand up to your landlords or the tax commissioner or the management company. Figure it out. You figure out IF OR why youre paying twice for trash pickup and I promise not to complain about paying for public open space or streetscapes or trolleys or urban designs or public parking or the century-old long neglected decaying infrastructure in your high density historic urban neighborhood that my 1990 community helps pay for but rarely uses. Oh... before you go there... l love San Diegos historic neighborhoods and emerging high density clusters. In fact Im a huge advocate. A big fan. Im a strident defender and proponent and have been so since 1977. So... forget your first inclination. And start to realize that each residential setting has costs and demands. I know. I live on 3/4 acres in a four bedroom 3 bath subdivision 20 miles from downtown NORTH OF THE 8!! (Gasp!) And my trash pickup assessment is blended into my taxes. Maybe yours is. Maybe yours isnt. Beats me. Maybe youre paying twice. Or maybe your taxes reflect a discount for lack of that service. I dont know. You dont know. So... figure it out. Address the issue to those making these decisions. Let me know how it turns out. And leave me out of it. -------- Original message -------- From: Ann Fathy If you want to put it that way, then we who live in multifamily housing pay twice for trash pickup. We pay for it in taxes plus we pay private contractors to haul away both our trash and our recyclables. _______________________________ MY ORIGINAL COMMENT: 1. We dont get free trash pickup. 2. We dont get free trash pickup. 3. See: numbers 1 and 2. Just because its not broken down separately on our tax bill does not mean we single family home owners are not paying for trash pickup. You know what? Trash pickup isnt separately listed. Neither is policing. Or fire. Or roads. Or any other governmental function. Shall l now read a suggestion that all other services not separately listed on my single family residential tax bill are also free? Really? Seriously? Is that all you got? Is this what youve come to? Please. -------- Original message -------- From: WALTER BREWER Date:11/20/2014 1:50 PM (GMT-08:00) To: Ann Fathy ,[email protected] Subject: [SD-Urban] Re: kpbs: Raising Taxes One Way San Diegans Can Pay For Better Roads, Affordable Housing Why dont you think trash collection is not included in the calculation of singlgle family homes tax rate? The best route to affordable housing is in an automobile to take you where it is for yor level of earnings, rather than subsidized by others. The rest of us, who live in multifamily housing, have had to pay for the pick up all these years.] Raising Taxes One Way San Diegans Can Pay For Better Roads, Affordable Housing
