TRAUMA, AN ILLNESS...OR A GIFT? What those in the West view as mental illness, the Dagara people regard as “good news from the other world.” source: earthweareone/what-a-shaman-sees-in-a-mental-hospital/ The above article is powerful validation of my own experience processing trauma. Thanks so much Rami Kouhana / Rami Kouhana Bodywork and Holistic Healing ramikouhana/ for sharing. This perspective is a distinct shift from many approaches to healing, BOTH east and west, physical, psychological AND spiritual. Conventional practices are to a large degree oriented under the premise that the trauma is to be cleared out as quickly as possible as if its poison, rather than deeply revered for the message embedded within. I believe the best approach for someone who carries trauma isnt to clear their system as quickly as possible, but to hold them in such a way to HEAR and be receptive to what they express. Those who carry a load are very much are likely the ones with an important message to offer the world...perhaps far more than the other way around.
