This may not be a handy, downloadable tool for your smartphone, but it definitely is a useful tool for any traveller. We all know that hotels sometimes drop the prices of their rooms in order to fill them, and that there are some amazing late deals out there. But what if you’re not the sort of person who wants to risk a last-minute booking in the hope of some savings, or worse, what if you’ve already booked? This is where Tingo comes in. Having made a booking, Tingo monitors the prices for other rooms of the same type and not only notifies you when there is a price drop, it also refunds you the difference. There are limitations to this, of course. For a start, you must book the room through Tingo, but since it is partnered with TripAdvisor, finding a quality hotel is not a problem because there are hundreds of reviews available. The hotel in question must be part of the scheme, and only certain rooms qualify for the refund. But with refunds ranging from between $20 to over $50 (depending on when you book), this is very definitely a useful tool.
