TRIBUTE TO ALBDULBASIT SANI BALA: EXIT OF A STAR FROM THE START Abdulbasit was a wonderful young man who judiciously used his golden age, The Golden Age, as described by the classical scholars is between the ages 5 to 23 years. Definitely the golden age is the best time to memorise the Quran as it is the peak of a persons memory. This age factor is a great bonus and aid for those wishing to memorise the Quran and Alhamdulillah the young Abdulbasit has fully utilised the golden time, before his death as i was reliably told by his brother he has memorized the whole of Quran about 12 days ago, Allahu Akbar in addition to the numerous hadith he memorized. He was what the Hausas will describe as “son kowa kin wanda ya rasa” (everyone’s wish, envy of those who haven’t wished). He brought joy, laughter and now a painful loss to those of who have been privileged to benefit and enjoy his company, Oh i really missed his company but i vividly remember sometimes during the last Ramadan we exchange pleasantries on Facebook inbox but upon inquiry about him i came to realized a magnitude of the lost the more. You shall truly be missed Alhafiz Abbulbasit. Innalillahi wa inna ilaihir rajiun (‘from Allah we come and to him is our return’). You came into our lives passing through like a shooting star and now all of a sudden your light has been dimmed. I felt it necessary to share my feelings. I love you Abdulbasit truly and I miss you. But I know God loves you more and I believe that Insha Allah you are in a better place. When i went for the condolence i was shocked to my bone marrow, Faisal Sani Bala led us inside the house after extending our sincere condolences, i was just about to leave, Abdulbasit Mother said the deceased talked about me, and that he told her he wanted to be like me after his studies and that am his role model and mentor. and surprisingly the same message was repeated by his Mothers Younger sister. Allahu Akbar may Allah make me better than people think about me and forgive my sins. but the truth of the matter is Abdulbasit statement,the reverse is the case, this is because Hafiz of the Quran has such a rank in this world that he is one of only two types of people considered worthy of envy. as stated in Sahih Bukhari in the following hadith: Abu Huraira t narrated that Rasulullah SAW said: There is no jealousy but of two men: A man whom Allah has taught the Quran and he recites is during the hours of the night and during the hours of the day, and his neighbor listens to him and says: I wish I had been given what has been given to so-and-so, in order that I might do what he does; and also “Muaadh al-Juhani narrates that Rasulullah SAW said, Whosoever recites the Quran and practices upon its injunctions, the reciters parents will be given a crown on the day of Qiyaamat. The brightness of that crown will be more intense than the brightness of the sun in your actual house. Rasulullah SAW further said, What do you think will be given to the Hafiz (reciter) of the Quran himself?” (Mishkaat Vol I.) Au kama Qal.... Abdulbasit Sani Bala when God gave you to us, he did not seek our advice, just as now that He has taking you back, He does not need our consent. may Allah in His infinite mercy unite us to part no more. This is a big loss to Jos and Nigeria in entirety as your father has tried all his best to give you and your brothers sound knowledge, impacted to you the best characters, i still remember when your grandma of blessed memory Hajiya Rabi always draw me close to your brothers, on this note, I consider him(Abdulbasit) my mentor or motivator Islamically and i shall inshaAllah emulate his good virtue, Indeed this is a loss worth grieving for, but we ought to grieve within our own Islamic principles. Malam Abdulbasit is dead, we are sad but we shall utter not a word to displease our Creator, Allah. May Allah have mercy on your soul, and may Allah give the family the fortitude to bear the lost.
