Caught two huge marlin!” 5 of 5 starsReviewed November 22, 2014 NEW Today we chartered the new Ihu Nui, with McGrew as captain and Carlton as first mate. It was me, my boyfriend, my mom, and her boyfriend. First of all, the boat is magnificent. It has a spacious back deck area with the fighting chair, and twin engines which were very powerful and smooth. There is a large interior cabin with sitting area, kitchenette, and a private, clean bathroom. If it is a little hot outside, you can close the doors and the cabin area is air conditioned, and you can still see the outside through large tinted windows. You can also go up the ladder and there is a very nice, second story seating area which gets a great breeze and you can chat with McGrew. Next, McGrew and Carlton are top notch, professional fishermen. They are so knowledgeable and confident, yet warm and friendly to make you feel right at home. They also moved fast but stayed calm while we had fish on the line, and their years of experience showed as they got the job done. My moms boyfriend was the angler for the first fish, which was a large marlin. We had intended to tag and release it, but it was decided by the crew that the fish wasnt doing well so we took it. It weighed in at 400 pounds. Carlton and McGrew coached him through it and he so proud that he had not only caught his first marlin, but it was 400 pounds!!! After taking the fish to the dock, we went back out to troll around some more. After a while we finally decided to start heading back towards shore, satisfied with our catch and comfortable experience. Suddenly we had another fish on the line! This time it was my turn to be in the chair. Ive never done this before, and before I knew it, I was reeling in something big. Like with my moms boyfriend, Carlton was right there to help me and coach me on how to fight the fish. This was extremely tiring but thrilling! Finally we got the fish to the boat, which was a beautiful 600 or so pound marlin female. It was decided that she was healthy and so we tagged her and let her go. So I also caught my first marlin ever, and it was 600 pounds or more! What an amazing day. To summarize, I would highly recommend Ihu Nui Sportfishing. Even if we hadnt caught any fish, it still would have been a beautiful day with my family. I learned today that deep sea fishing is very intense when you have a fish on the line, and can be dangerous. For this reason, it is vital to have a knowledgeable crew with good judgement to not only give you a fun experience, but also keep you safe. You wont be disappointed with these guys.
