TROOP A NEWS RELEASE January 8, 2015 Two Texas Residents Arrested when Troopers Locate Counterfeit Money Port Allen – On January 8, 2015, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop “A” arrested two Texas residents for several offenses including being in possession of counterfeit currency. The arrests came after Troopers attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation on I-10 in West Baton Rouge Parish. At approximately 11:30 am on January 8th, Troopers observed a 2001 Mercedes S430 traveling eastbound on I-10 near LA Hwy 415. Troopers attempted to stop the Mercedes for a traffic violation, but the driver (31 year old Mike A. Rodriguez of Martindale, TX) continued eastbound on I-10. Rodriguez then exited I-10 and traveled southbound on LA Hwy 1. While southbound on LA Hwy 1 Rodriguez crossed the median and began traveling southbound in the northbound lanes. He then made a U-turn in the grassy shoulder area and began traveling northbound in the grass. A Trooper was traveling northbound in the right hand lane of LA Hwy 1 next to the Mercedes when it suddenly reentered the roadway and struck the Troopers unit, causing minor damage. After the collision, Rodriguez and a female passenger (22 year old Brianna M. Martinez of Manor, TX) fled the vehicle on foot. Both subjects were quickly apprehended and placed into custody. Consent to search the vehicle was given, and Troopers discovered approximately $940 in counterfeit $20 bills. Rodriguez was placed under arrest for Improper lane usage, Reckless operation, Resisting an officer, Flight from an officer, No driver’s license, Monetary instrument abuse, and for several felony warrants out of Texas. Martinez was placed under arrest for Resisting an officer and Monetary instrument abuse. Both were transported to the West Baton Rouge Parish jail and booked on the above listed charges. During the course of the investigation Troopers learned that Rodriguez is a member of the “Tango Blast” gang located out of Texas.
