TROOP D NEWS RELEASE January 11, 2015 Calcasieu Parish Fatal Crash On January 10, 2015, at 9:31 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a single-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 12 about 1 mile east of the community of Starks that claimed the life of a man from Rosepine. The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2000 Ford F-250 driven by 31-year-old Wayne M. Riser of Rosepine was traveling west on LA 12 when, for unknown reasons, the truck Riser was driving ran off the road and struck a concrete culvert then struck several trees. The vehicle sustained severe damage as a result of the crash. Riser was pronounced dead at the scene by the Calcasieu Parish Coroner’s Office. Four other occupants in the vehicle received minor to moderate injuries. Everyone in the vehicle was wearing a seat belt. A routine toxicology sample was obtained from Manuel and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation. While not every crash is survivable, seat belts greatly enhance the likelihood of avoiding serious injury. The four passengers involved in this crash were wearing a seat belt and avoided serious injury despite the severity of the crash. Motorists are encouraged to always make the smart choice and to wear their seat belt, every trip, every time. Troop D has investigated 2 fatal crashes resulting in 2 fatalities this year.
