TROY students head to Washington conference A OPP STUDENT WILL BE ATTENDING!!! TROY – Students from Troy University’s Manuel H. Johnson Center for Political Economy will head to the nation’s capitol next week to attend the largest pro-liberty student gathering in existence. The International Students for Liberty Conference brings together about 1,600 student leaders for each year for a weekend celebration of the cause of freedom. Last year, more than 1,400 students from all seven continents attended. This year’s conference is Feb. 14 – 16. “This is a great opportunity for our students to network with other students and organizations committed to liberty, and it’s an honor to be representing the Johnson Center at this event,” said Dr. Daniel Smith, an economics professor at the Johnson Center who is coordinating the University group’s attendance. Attendees will participate in a live taping of the STOSSEL Show and will hear from speakers such as Ghanaian economist George Ayittey, drug policy reform proponent Ethan Nadelmann, and Academy Award winning director Oliver Stone. Other highlights include a liberty fair, a concert, and an art exhibit. The Johnson Center, a research and educational center focused on economic freedom and individual liberty within TROY’s Sorrell College of Business, will also host an exhibit distributing materials about the research and program offerings in the Center. Attending from TROY are: Ana-Shea Fann, and economics major from Muskegon, Mich.; Gavin Senn, a psychology major from Ashford; Hanna Favre, a psychology major from Tallassee; Jeremiah Baky, a computer science major from Coden; Kevin Reaves, a computer science major from Greenville; Blake Cullifer, a social work major from Opp; Taylor Blankenship, a pre-engineering major from Pinson; Jennet Jumayeva, an MBA in Finance and Accounting student from Ashgabat, Turkmenistan; Talat Huseynov, and international economic development major from Baku, Azerbaijan; Muhammad Bakhishnov, and information systems majors from Baku, Azerbaijan; Mayen Akpan, and international economic development major from Ulan-Bator, Mongolia; and Jacob Brown, a biology major at the University of Southern Mississippi, who is joining the group.
