TRUTH IN GOD’S WORD “For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men.” (Titus 2:11). In this verse, the word “grace” means “that kindness by which God bestows favors even upon the ill-deserving, and grants to sinners the pardon of their offences, and bids them acceptance of eternal salvation through Christ” (Strong’s No. 5485; Thayers Greek Lexicon). The grace of God has freely given the following three unmerited blessings: (1) a living soul, unlike any other creature (Genesis 2:7); (2) the inspired message of salvation, which through faithful obedience grants the eternal hope of heaven (1 Corinthians 1:21); and (3) the Savior Himself, freely given through the love of the Father (John 3:16). God’s grace applies to both Jew and Gentile through its fulfillment by promise in Jesus Christ, that all faithfully obedient souls may be recognized as the “seed” of Abraham, and children of God (see Romans 4:16; Galatians 3:26-29). “Grace alone” is foreign to the Bible, but acceptance of God’s grace through faith and obedience is taught!
