TRUTH for the day: If given the means and opportunity, I would wish - in my lifetime - to adopt or foster children rescued from abusive family homes. I would welcome them - with hugs, protection, soothing words, and warmth - with all the memories and knowledge, the understanding and foresight of having survived child abuse brings to my still-healing heart. My attention to their every emotional need and their physical well-being would be paramount in every action, deed, and goal for the life I would provide them. I know the pain that remains, hot and searing - decades after the leather strap tore away layers of epidermal tissue. I remember the shock and terror as the person - who was supposed to be my protector, the provider of life and warmth - turned against me and became cold and torturing. I know what its like and I know what I wished someone would have done to soothe my panic attacks - which still grip me on occasion 30 years later. I wish to bring light into the dark recesses of a damaged childs world and make them heal, make them whole once more, make them feel loved and cherished and praised, as all children MUST be.
