TS Top 15: Dragon Ball Characters #1 Son Gohan Goku’s oldest son, Gohan always had huge hidden potential, which he reached (temporarily) against Cell. DBZ could be considered the story of his life, as it starts when he is 4, and we watch him grow until he’s 27 in the final episode. He started as a baby, literally, and grew into an outstanding man, and I enjoy watching every step of the way (except for the Great Saiyaman stuff, that sucked). I always thought he was a kickass character whether he’s trapping Garlic Jr in the Dead Zone with just his scream, head butting Radditz, or (temporarily) beating the shit out of Frieza who was in his 2nd, 3rd, and final form each time. His defining moment was when he finally unleashed his full hidden potential against Perfect Cell and became a Super Saiyan 2, the strongest being in the universe at that time. He also gets twisted and slightly psychopathic, which only made him that much more of a badass. But because of his mother he gave up fighting. And it took Vegeta, who trained every single moment in the 7 years after Cell’s defeat, to surpass Gohan. But if somehow he kept his skill (nor increase nor decrease) Vegeta would still be weaker than his rival’s son. By the end of DBZ, he is the strongest non-fused character (before the Battle of the God film). He is truly a gift fighter, like his father and his emotions gave him that extra edge. However, he lacks the killer instinct a true saiyan has, like Goku and Vegeta, and that’s what makes him more human and acceptable character in my opinion. In short, Gohan is my favorite Dragon Ball character because he had to fight not only the toughest villains at such a young age but had to fight his own fear of not only confrontation but also his inner most power.
