TTPS Launches probe into school violence at Mucurapo West Secondary School TTPS Public Information Officer and Anti-Bullying Campaign Coordinator, Inspector Wayne Mystar, has classified Fridays brawl among students of the Mucurapo West Secondary School as school violence. In an interview with C News, he said: Bullying is something that is done repeatedly. We launched an anti-bullying campaign and that is to target the Secondary Schools in Port of Spain in the interim. The TTPS Spokesperson said school violence will not be tolerated. We have a zero tolerance on school violence. So I can assure you and members of the public that incidents such as those will be investigated thoroughly and the necessary action may be taken. The Mucurapo West Secondary School has launched an investigation into Fridays brawl and at least 10 students involved in the incident were sent home on suspension. The school is one of the Port of Spain schools participating in the National Anti-Bullying Campaign pilot project. The Campaign targets Form 1 and Form 2 students in a bid to curb bullying and school violence by raising awareness. Inspector Mystar said the TTPS will be making its own inquiries into the incident. Its a clear case of school violence and we will be making an input as it relates to having dialogue with the Principal and the Ministry and we will be making an input. As a matter of fact, an investigation has been launched into that incident so we could treat with it accordingly. The Anti-Bullying Campaign pilot project is winding down and despite this one isolated incident at the pilot school, Inspector Mystar said the campaign has been well received. The TTPS and its Anti-Bullying Campaign team are already looking towards future endeavours. As soon as the pilot is through we are going to be rolling out this Anti-Bullying Campaign throughout Trinidad and Tobago so it will benefit all Secondary Schools. (Source: C News)
