TUCO TAKES STEPS TO BECOME GLOBAL, SELF SUFFICIENT The Trinbago Unified Calypsonians Organisation is on a mission to re-establish the calypso art form as one of the major music genres on the global arena. The organisation is also seeking to become self sufficient and eventually cease being financially dependent upon the State. Towards this end TUCO some time aback embarked on a number of projects to create revenue and to also promote itself and by extension calypso and calypsonians. We have just published the fourth edition of the TUCO Kaiso Magazine, which serves a two-fold purpose, (1) to generating revenue for the organisations Welfare Fund that lends assistance to calypsonians should any social or medical need arise. (2) to promote the art form and the musical styles that its spawned as well as to provide historical, biographical and other information to readers here and abroad. This 100-page issue of Kaiso Magazine features not only articles on calypso, soca, chutney-soca, rapso, ragga-soca and other hybrids, but also lifestyle articles on health, finance and marketing aimed at the calypsonians and other artistes. There are interviews with reigning National Calypso Monarch, Roderick Chucky Gordon. The glossy, full-colour magazine celebrates the Calypso Tents. The Kaiso magazine is available at:- TUCO headquarters, #45B & C Jerningham Avenue, Belmont as well as at book stores across the island. For more information on the magazine you can contact; 625-1629 or 623-9660 for information.
