TUESDAY 2 DECEMBER 2014 - 12:30am = VIEWS 10 406 & REPLIES 148 THIS DISCUSSION HAPPENING NOW ON = 4x4community.co.za/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=170 Mozambique, the country where tourists are punished for their economy… So we returned from our self-drive trip to Chidenguele, great country, great beaches, great roads, but... After being well prepared I was still surprized by the opportunistic citizens of Mozambique and though a warning to future travellers would be a good idea; The border officials and runners work together, they intentionally did not issue a gate pass at the South African side and then indicated I should proceed to the immigration office. Because of this gate pass a runner with ID... was appointed and I end up paying R600 to get all paperwork done. This after we decided not to use runners and would do everything ourselves On return to SA the GM at our lodge warned us about a speed trap in Chizavane, obeying the speed limits anyway, I even decided to set the speed cruise on 55km/h. I was still stopped and the cop claimed a 82km/h speed, the reading was cleared and the negotiations started. Having my wife and 9year old in the car I ended up paying a R50 contribution (against my will) to leave In Xai-Xai at the Engen garage the fill-up was 1800 MT and the attendant tried to issue a 1000 Mt more on my card... Check your pump readings! Just before the Moamba toll gate yet another cop did not seize the opportunity to do a routine stop. We were too well prepared for this rude cop and he let us go with a warning that the medium sized crate on the back seat (not obstructing my view in any way) was illegal as it is not a passenger .... If 1st time travellers to this beautiful country, be prepared to deal with their corrupt cops and become Africa streetwise... Or stay AWAY!
